Sheffield United vs Carlisle - Betting Preview

Football - England League One

Wednesday 12th March 2014 – Kickoff: 20:45

Mid-table Sheffield United will be looking to continue their good recent form when they entertain lowly Carlisle United at Bramall Lane in Wednesday night’s League One fixture.

Indeed, Sheffield United will go in search of a seventh straight League One win tonight on the back of some impressive results such as 1-0 away wins at Colchester United and MK Dons respectively as well as last week’s 2-0 home win over sixth placed Peterborough United, and these results have duly lifted The Blades up into the safety of a mid-table position.

Nigel Clough’s men may even make an unlikely challenge for a play-off place and even though they are rank outsiders right now to do so, you never know when a team get on a roll what they are capable of achieving, starting from tonight. United’s overall home record now stands at a much healthier looking 8-5-3 25/14 and are unbeaten in their last eight at Bramall Lane having kept clean sheets in each of their last three on home turf.

Onto tonight’s visitors Carlisle United then, and The Cumbrians slumped to their ninth away defeat at the weekend when they lost 1-2 at Port Vale and they now sit in 19thplace in League one just two positions and two points ahead of Stevenage who occupy the last relegation spot.

Carlisle are now without a win from their last three with defeat at home to Rotherham United 1-2 and a 0-0 draw with Brentford, but they did manage a 2-1 win away at a Coventry City side who seem to be going nowhere at the minute. Carlisle’s overall away record though hasn’t exactly set the world on fire which stands at 3-4-9 13/26 and a lack of goals on their travels (only Sheffield United with 11 have scored fewer), has certainly made a negative impact upon their results on their travels.

As mentioned earlier, Sheffield United do indeed fall into the category of a team on a roll and it’s hard to see how Carlisle are going to contain The Blades’ building momentum so I’ll go for the straight win here for the hosts who could win this one perhaps 2-0.

Pick: Sheffield United straight win @ 1.67
