Colchester United vs Rotheram United

Struggling Colchester United play host to fifth placed Rotherham United at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to halt a five match run without a win.

Colchester have in fact lost four of their last five with home defeats against Preston North End 1-2 and Sheffield United 0-1 and away defeats at Port Vale 0-2 and Saturday’s 1-2 loss at Leyton Orient with only a point at Swindon Town in a 0-0 draw preventing five losses on the trot for Joe Dunne’s men.

As a result, Colchester now find themselves in 19th place level on points with relegation candidates Crewe Alexandra although The U’s do possess a far superior goal difference to The Railwaymen. Colchester’s recent home form has been a bit hit-and-miss lately having registered wins over Stevenage 4-0 and Gillingham 3-0 but have also had defeats inflicted upon them by the likes of Crewe Alexandra 1-2, Preston and Sheffield United.

Colchester’s overall home form stands at an inconsistent 5-3-7 19/20 and they’ve kept just four clean sheets on home turf to date.

Visitors Rotherham United will be going into tonight’s match full of confidence following their 6-0 demolition of struggling Notts County on Saturday which has extended The Millermen’s unbeaten run to nine matches which includes seven wins. Also during this sequence, Rotherham have scored 2 goals or more in all of these last nine matches which places them in a strong position for tonight’s encounter.

Rotherham’s away record stands at 10-3-3 29/17 and along with Leyton Orient and Preston North End, they’ve recorded the most number of away wins so far this season in League One. On the road, they’ve lost just once in their last nine (at Port Vale) but have recorded notable wins at Coventry City, Bradford City and held Preston to a 3-3 draw last week.

Rotherham are in fine goalscoring form right now and with their leading goalscorer Agard (13 goals) a constant threat along with Frecklington (9 goals), Revell (7 goals, 6 assists) and Pringle (5 goals, 9 assists), the visitors look to possess a lot more attacking depth and options than their hosts tonight. Give the quarter ball on Rotherham here but I think they stand an excellent chance of taking all three points – could be 2-1 to Rotherham United.

Tip: Rotherham United AH-0.25

Odds: 1.68
